Just five races remain in the 2023 NTT IndyCar Series season entering Sunday's Big Machine Music City Grand Prix on the Nashville Street Circuit. Scott McLaughlin will start on the pole after a dominant performance on Saturday, posting the top lap in qualifying by 0.3296 seconds over Pato O'Ward, who will start on the outside of the front row. The Nashville Street Circuit is a 2.17-mile course with 11 turns. Álex Palou, who will start from the fourth position, comes to Nashville with an 80-point lead in the driver standings over Josef Newgarden, with six-time IndyCar champion Scott Dixon 120 points behind.
Dixon won in Nashville a year ago, moving up from 14thin qualifying to holf off McLaughlin by 0.1067 seconds at the finish. Only 15 of the 26 cars were still on the track at the end of the race, with 10 knocked out by contact with other cars and Marcus Ericsson's gearbox breaking down on his 77th lap.
The race is 80 laps and the first running of the event was in 2021. Chip Ganassi Racing has won each year, with Ericsson topping the podium in 2021 and Dixon winning in 2022.
